Who should apply for a survey licence
A survey licence is needed for any collection and/ or acquisition of biological resources for research or commercial purpose. A survey licence is issued under authority of the Greenland Home Rule Parliament Act no. 20 of 20 November 2006 on the use of biological resources for commercial and research purposes.

What does "biological resources" cover?
“Biological resources” means all kinds of genetic resources, organisms or parts thereof, populations, or any other biotic component of ecosystems with actual or potential use or value for humanity today or in the future.

Commercial utilisation
If the collected or acquired biological resources are used for commercial purposes, a commercial licence must be applied for. "Commercial utilisation" means production or resale of products or knowledge based on biological resources and commercialisation of patent rights covering biological resources or based on biological resources or components derived from such resources.
