The EU Partnership Agreement

In 2006 Greenland and the EU agreed on a comprehensive partnership for the sustainable development of Greenland. The Partnership Agreement is a political declaration stating the parties’ intentions to continue and expand their cooperation within various areas. The declaration was made in recognition of the close historical, political, economic and cultural ties between Greenland and the EU.

The Partnership Agreement entails that Greenland receives approximately 25 million Euros as Sector Budget Support for the Greenland Education Programme (GEP).

The Partnership Agreement states a number of reporting obligations, whereby Greenland is committed to submit annual work plans to the EU on activities under the GEP planned during the year, including targets on a number of indicators agreed between Greenland and the EU. The following year Greenland is committed to submit annual implementation reports to the EU on the activities carried out during the year and the results obtained compared to the targets set in the annual work plan.

The secretariat responsible for the implementation of the Partnership Agreement is placed in the Ministry of Culture, Education, Research and the Church (MoCERC). But also the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Greenland Representation in Brussels participate in the work.
